The International Association of Airport and Seaport Police is a non-profit, nongovernmental organisaton representing the interests of the worldwide port policing and security community. Dedicated to improving the standards of safety and security in ports, we are the only association providing world wide international forums for port policing and security professionals to exchange of information and experience.
We are acknowledged as the world's leading experts in this highly specialized field and during the last few years our association has achieved considerable recognition having been named under S. 109 of the US Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 and appointed to the International Advisory Board of ISOrrC8. Most recently we were invited to make an application for consultative status with the IMO.
There is a heightened need for even more stringent security and more effective policing measures at all the world's Airports & Seaports. At our Mid-Term Board Meeting recently held in Brisbane, Australia, we presented the first draft of our dedicated port policing model intended to effectively address the risks and exposures posed by international organized crime and terrorism.
The need to expedite the movement of people and cargos in the most cost effective manner remains a priority for ports if they are to remain competitive. The remarkable efficiency shown by the transportation industry in facilitating the movement of people and goods has provided greater

opportunities for the activities of international organized crime and terrorism. Ports more than ever now are at risk of losing their reputations as safe and secure venues to do business.
Since the events of 911, Governments as well as dedicated port police and security professionals have placed more and more emphasis on the need for heightened security and the closer examination of illegal activities which could have a bearing on the security of the nation and reputation of ports.
Making our ports safer and more secure remains a top priority for members of the IAASP. Without dedicated port policing and professional security services, ports can easily develop a reputation for facilitating acts of terrorism and allowing crime and corruption to flourish with impunity.
With the continued growth of international organized crime and terrorism, police and intelligence services are facing greater challenges in meeting the need for international cooperation and the exchange of information. The IAASP provides an appropriate vehicle for dedicated port police and security providers, to meet this challenge without the need
for international protocols or formal arrangements.--------------, Our work continues.............
